Electronic Balloting

ASTM International introduced an electronic balloting process in 2001 to enable its members and customers to better meet their standardization objectives. This module focuses on the mechanics of the process and highlight recent enhancements that were engineered to provide access to a greater amount of information while reducing the time required vote on-line. Specific areas covered are gaining access to the ballot, downloading individual and collective ballot items, submitting negatives and comments, accessing a ballot after successful vote submission, and other technical information.

Strategic Planning and New Activity Development

ASTM International committees are designed to reflect the breadth of the industries they represent, with all stakeholder groups present. Due to the inherent complexity of many industries, it is imperative that committees retain focus in regard to their overall mission – strategic planning is a tool that can greatly assist a committee in accomplishing this goal. A comprehensive Strategic Planning philosophy reinforces a committee’s strengths, provides direction and focus, helps an activity move toward a desired result, and maximizes potential resources.

Online Negative Vote Resolution Training

Online Negative Vote Resolution (ONR) is an interactive tool for officers and technical contacts enabling easy, accurate, and timely negative vote resolution. The ONR feature provides for the input of resolutions to negatives through the .Ballot Negatives and Comments. section of the .My Tools. box. Upon submission of the resolutions, they will be posted for review and approval by Staff, and will remain viewable for 6 months after the item is resolved. This module is a tutorial that steps members through the ONR process. It also addresses the preparation of meeting agendas, demonstrating how to construct agendas that effectively address negatives and their resolution. While we encourage use of this online ability, members will continue to have the option to submit the .Report of Action taken on A Main/Subcommittee Ballot Negative Vote. form, and communicate directly with Staff Managers as needed.

WebEx Training

ASTM provides members the opportunity to host WebEx meetings or web-based conference calls. These WebEx or virtual meetings combine teleconference capability with real-time document sharing through the web. These WebEx meetings may be used by ASTM Committees for task group meetings to develop draft revisions and new standards, officer/executive subcommittee meetings, training sessions and presentations, strategic planning meetings, etc.

The PowerPoint will give you details on how the WebEx system works and assist in preparing you to host your own WebEx meeting. If you wish to register for a live session, please contact Kevin Shanahan (kshanaha@astm.org or 610 832 9737).
